Charith Asalanka of Richmond College, having bagged the award in 2015, joins an elite list of players to be crowned the Bata School Boy Cricketer of the year in two consecutive years as he was named the winner in 2016 as well. Sammu Ashan of Ananda College was the 1st runner up while Asitha Fernando of St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya was the 2nd Runner up.
The glamorous event was held on the 11th of November at BMICH as past Nalanda, Bloomfield and CCC Cricket Captain, Past Sri Lanka Cricket Captain, Past ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Roshan Mahanama graced the event as chief guest.
Raveen Sayer of Trinity College was crowned as the Best Captain of this past season. Asitha Fernando of St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya was the Best Bowler and Avishka Fernando of St. Joseph Vaz the runner up.
Pramod Maduwantha of Isipathana College was adjudged the Best All-Rounder while Akash Seneviratne from De Mazenod placed as the runner up.
The Best Fielder award was bagged by Wanidu Hasaranga of Richmond College while Asitha Gihan of St. Joseph Vaz won the runner up award.
Incidentally the 2016 School Boy Cricketer of the year Charith Asalanaka and the Runner up of the award, Sammu Ashan shared the same fate in the Best Batsman award category.
The Best Team award went to Trinity College while Thurstan College was adjudged the runner up.
Taking a look at the emerging schools awards winners, Rasitha Upamal Dias from Dharmaloka College was named the Emerging Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2016. The best All-rounder award was bagged by Raveen Yasas from Devapathiraja Maha Vidyalaya.
Best Fielder, Best Batsman and Best Bowler awards were bagged by Kavindu Sahan (Devananda), Rasitha Upamal Dias (Dharmaloka) and Dilum Sudeera (Karandeniya Central) respectively.
