Thurstan College skipper Charana Nanayakkara struck a brilliant 43-ball century as they took major honours in their drawn under 19 traditional match against St. Sebastian’s College on Wednesday at Thurstan grounds.
After opting to bat first, the visitors’ top order batsman contributed well with the bat, which made things look better for the team from Moratuwa. Sachintha Silva looked in good form and contributed with 77 runs while Tharusha Fernando made a steady 55 runs with the bat. Fast-bowlers, Charana and Isitha picked up 2 wickets apiece.

Skipper Charana completely dominated proceedings as he reached his ton in 47 balls and eventually went onto score 127. Vice-captain, Sajith Gunathilake contributed 69 runs with the bat playing some great shots. Praveen Jayawickrama was the pick of the bowlers grabbed 8 scalps for 86 runs.
The visitors batted cautiously till end of second day’s play to post 213 runs on the board. Left-arm spinner Naveen Gunawardene took 4 for 45 for the home team.
