Old boy of Kingswood and acclaimed fitness trainer Mothilal Jayathilake will take up duties as coach of Kingswood College Rugby along with Chamara Withanage replacing Kastro as he takes a break following the 1st round of the Singer Schools’ Rugby League.
Though it has been a while since Kingswood made headlines in Sri Lanka schools’ rugby, the school was a dominant force in the early 2000s with two icons Ronnie Ibrahim along with Mothilal Jayathilake, guiding the Kingswoodians to the Triple Crown for three consecutive years; a feat unmatched to date.
Jayathilake trained a dominant Kingswood outfit from 2003 to 2005; a fast paced, running game defined the teams he worked with. He then took up duties at St. Peter’s College Colombo and was a part of the coaching staff that lead the team to the League Championship in 2006 and 2007. They also won the President’s trophy from 2006-2008.
In the past one and a half decades he has made a huge impact on not only schools’ rugby but club rugby too, training teams in the likes of Sri Lanka Army.
Will Mothilal Jayathilake be able to rejuvenate Kingswood Rugby? Only time will tell.
