The 25-year-old seaming all-rounder Karunaratne, who was named in Sri Lanka’s 20-member squad to take part in upcoming Australia T20I series, has tested positive for COVID-19 just a few hours before the team’s departure to Australia.

As per the medical authorities, steps have been taken to put him in quarantine. This is the fourth COVID-19 victim in the Sri Lanka contingent to tour in Australia, as the national team’s interim Head Coach Rumesh Ratnayake, fast bowler Nuwan Thushara and the national team’s trainer Dilshan Fonseka had already tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis, the Skipper of Kandy team participating in the ongoing National Super League 50-over tournament, has also been diagnosed with COVID-19.

Mendis, who underwent a PCR test yesterday, has been found to be COVID-19 positive and as a result he too will be placed under quarantine.
