Wayamba Rajarata and Sabaragamuwa Provinces defeated Central & Uva Provinces respectively in matchweek 7 of the Ceylon Provincial League 2022, played for the Independence Trophy.
SABARAGAMUWA v UVA
Uva Province scored late but were unable to find an equalizer as Sabaragamuwa Province won 2-1 at the Seevali Grounds in Rathnapura.
In front of their home fans, Sabaragamuwa took the lead in the 8th minute with the tournament’s 3rd highest goal scorer Mohamed Mushfik adding to his tally and making it 5. Sabaragamuwa dominated the half but were not able to score further.

Captain Mohamed Shifan entertained the fans with another delightful finish in the 87th minute before Uva’s Chathura Ponnamperuma delivered a classic volley in 90+5th minute.
CENTRAL v RAJARATA
Wayamba Rajarata came from a goal down to beat Central Province 3-1 at the Municipal Council Ground in Kegalle.
Rajarata wasted multiple chances to score in the 1st half. Rajarata’s G.S. Kumar failed to get the ball past Central goalkeeper Amith Dissanayake on a couple of one-on-one opportunities. He did get the ball into the goal on one occasion but was unfortunately deemed off-side.
It was Central Province who took the lead in the 62nd minute when Khalid Azmil’s corner kick was not handled properly by Dilshan Tharinda, who could only punch it into his own net. Rajarata found the equalizer through substitute M.N.N. Mohamed, who lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper after being sent through on goal in the 76th minute.
Minutes later in the 82nd minute they took the lead, after T.H.D. Thirimanna had the simplest of tap-ins following good down on the right. Rajarata made it 3-1 after M.N.N. Mohamed was once again sent through on goal, and he dribbled past Dissanayake for an easy goal in the 89th minute.
