SLC Premier League day 2 round up
CCC v Colts
CCC produced a tremendous performance to put themselves in contention for a rare outright victory over the fancied Colts CC team on the second day of their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League inter club tournament match which continued at Havelock Park today.
After having build up crucial first innings lead of 71 runs CCC went on to extend their overall lead to 233 runs while scoring a modest 162 runs in their second innings.
Opening batsman Gihan Rupasinghe hit a top score of 48 runs for the CCC while spinner Sachith Pathirana took the bowling honours while returning outstanding figures of seven wickets for 49 runs.
Colts CC then chasing a target of 234 runs, slumped to 116 for 5 wickets in their second innings against the spin of former Sri Lanka youth cap Maduka Liyanapathiranage who has already snapped up three wickets.
Ragama v Chilaw
Meanwhile Ragama Cricket Club were well poised to take first innings points over Chilaw Marians Cricket Club after the second day of their Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League tournament match which continued at the R. Premadasa Stadium today.
Chilaw Marians CC chasing their opponents massive first innings total of 452 for 6 collapsed to 140 for 6 wickets against the pace spin combination of Nilanka Premaratne (3 for 42) and Malinga Bandara (2 for 25).
Earlier Ragama Cricket Club went on to pile up a formidable 452 for 6 in their first innings with the aid of two superb centuries from Lahiru Thirimanne (135) and Chanaka Wijesinghe (117 n. o) with the pair also adding 134 runs for the fourth wicket.
Ports v Bloomfield
Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC were well set to take first innings points after another dominant day in their Premier League inter club cricket tournament match against Bloomfield which continued at Reid Avenue today.
Ports Authority CC continued with their excellent batting once again and went on to make a huge 593 for 7 wickets with middle order batsman Shantha Kalawitigoda and wicket keeper batsman Gayan Maneeshan both completing splendid centuries.
Kalawitigoda faced 172 deliveries stroking 17 boundaries and hoisting one six while Maneeshan struck a sparkling 102 from just 109 deliveries studded with three sixes and nine boundaries.
Bloomfield in reply suffered a double blow while losing a couple of early wickets but recovered to a certain extent through their fifth wicket pair of Dilhan Cooray and Adeesha Nanayakkara who have so far put on 73 valuable runs.
SSC v Panadura
The SSC fought back well through their bowlers to take a good first innings lead of over Panadura Sports Club on the second day of their Sri Lanka Cricket inter club Premier League tournament match which continued at Maitland Place today.
The home side successfully defended their total of 272 runs as they bowled out their opponents for a modest 191 runs with Charith Jayampathy, Dilhara Fernando, Ramindu Kumarasinghe and Kaushal Lokuarachchi sharing the wickets.
SSC of course collapsed to 156 for 6 in their second innings but yet they are in a commanding position with an overall lead of 237 runs and four wickets still in hand.
Moors v Army
Malinda Pushpakumara and Vimukthi Perera shared nine wickets between them as Moors Sports Club grabbed first innings points over Sri Lanka Army Sports Club in their Premier League inter club cricket tournament match which continued at Panagoda today.
Perera snapped up six wickets for 68 runs and Pushpakumara captured three wickets for 77 as Army SC were bowled out for 220 runs while chasing Moors SC’s first innings total of 295 runs.
Middle order batsman Lahiru Lakmal hit a splendid 124 runs to help Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club build up a good first innings lead over Badureliya CC on the second day of their Premier League cricket tournament match which continued at the Surrey ground in Maggona today.
The Airmen finished the day at a formidable 414 for 8 wickets in reply to Badureliya CC’s first innings total of 345 runs.
