Sri Lanka emerged champions of the Central Asian Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup (CAVA) 2023, which was held from the 9th to the 15th of October at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan, who topped the points table in the league round, qualified for the finals in the competition.
The Sri Lankan players managed to win the first set with a remarkable performance of 25-14, although many hoped that the Uzbekistan team would make a difference in the Final with their victory against the hosts in the preliminary round.

The islanders began the second set with an attacking mindset, which denied the chances of Uzbekistan to put on a fight back as Sri Lanka won the round 25-18.
The Uzbekistan players, who put a lot of pressure on Sri Lanka, tried to enter the match in the decisive third set of the final. However, the hosts sealed the third set as well (25-23) and won the final 3-0 to clinch the CAVA Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup 2023 for the second consecutive time.
In addition to this, the third-place game took place earlier yesterday with Afghanistan facing Saudi Arabia, who showed outstanding performances throughout the tournament. The Afghans did it easily to win all the first three sets to secure third place in the competition with scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-18.
