Three matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.

Prince of Wales, Moratuwa vs St. Mary’s College, Kegalle

The hosts needed only 6 wickets to record an outright victory on the start of the second day in the group ‘B’ encounter which concluded today in Moratuwa. The lads from Kegalle were completely outplayed by the left-arm spin of Kaumal Nanayakkara who claimed 7 wickets in the second innings as the Cambrians demolished the boys from Kegalle by innings & 17 runs.

The visitors opted to bat first in the group ‘D’ encounter which started today at Darley road. The decision backfired for Lumbini as Josephian bowling sensation Dunith Wellalage destroyed them for 78 with another 5-wicket haul to his tally. In reply, the hosts are in the driving seat as they posted 285 for 8 at stumps.

Lakshan Gamage remained unbeaten on 72 along with Wellalage who chipped in with a timely 37. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Mahinda College won the toss and decided to have a bat in the group ‘D’ encounter which commenced today at the Galle International Stadium. The hosts posted a decent 255 all out batting out 88.1 overs, while the Anandians were 22 for 1 when umpires decided to call it a day.

Ananda need 234 to notch up 1st innings points on the second day.
