Breathtaking 9th outright win for Trinity

Having lost the first innings battle to Ananda College, Trinity College staged a aggregative comeback through the efforts of skipper Raveen Sayer to register their 8th outright win for the season.

Ananda College skipper Nisal Fransisco who won the toss at the Panagoda Army Camp grounds, compiled a total of 154 runs in their first innings. Top-scoring for the home side was Kavishka Anjula who missed his half-century by a single run while Supun Waragoda contributed with 23. For the bowlers, it was the left-arm seamer Thisaru Dilshan who picked up five wickets and Duvindu Tilkerathne chipped in with two wickets.

Chasing a target of 154 runs to avoid the first innings defeat, Trinity College were bundled out for 141 runs through the efforts of Anandian left-arm spinner Dileepa Jayalath who picked seven wickets. Dilan Jayalath continued his form and top scored for the side with 46 runs while Nushan Weerasinghe gave the Lions the much-needed start and scored 36.

With the first innings win in hand, Ananda came out to bat with expectations of playing it safe but, the Trinity lads had other plans. Scoring 174 runs under a tough bowling attack was not an easy task for the Anandians but the stand out of the day was Kamesh Nirmal who went on score a century while Duvindu Tilkerathne and Thisaru Dilshan did the damage in the bowling department for the Lions picking up four and three wickets respectively.

Chasing a target of 191 runs in a short span of 30 overs was near impossible but with the start given by Hasitha Boyagoda and Shavindu Amerasinghe, Trinity were in close proximity of the target nearing the end of play. Skipper Raveen Sayer who took the duties of steering the innings from the middle order as he did the finishing honors for the team hitting a six to seal the win for his team. Sayer ended up scoring an unbeaten match winning knock of 43.

This marks, Trinity’s ninth outright win and their first outright against Ananda College after a lapse of 50 years.

S. Thomas College vs St. Sebastsian’s College

The lads from Mount Lavinia had to settle for a 1st innings win against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa having compiled a massive total of 281 runs in their first innings.

Batting first, St. Sebastian’s College were only able to score a total of 160 runs. Nuwanindu Fernando and Prashan Fernando contributed with 25 runs a-piece for the visitors. In the bowling department it was fast-bowler Shenal De Silva who picked up three wickets while Hasnsaka Liyanarachchi and Ravindu Tilekerathne captured two wickets each.

Coming out to bat, the S. Thomas’ College batsmen went on to massacre their opponent’s bowling lineup scoring a massive stand of 281 runs for the loss of 4 wickets before declaring. Left-handed Yohan Mendis went on to score his century and remained unbeaten on 119 when the Thomians decided to declare. Skipper Sachitha Jayathilaka scored 52 runs while Dilendra Gunathilake contributed with 47 for the Thomian tally.

The Sebastian’s batted fairly well in the second innings to notch up 274. Praveen Perera’s 74 and Prashen Fernando’s unbeaten knock of 64 them on course to avoid the defeat.
