BMS made light work of a hapless Saegis outfit to emerge champions of the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament while also successfully defending their title they won last year beating the same opponent.
BMS skipper Dinuk Wickramanayake won the toss and decided to field first as expected and reaped rewards as early as the first over when Shehan Fernando was dismissed for just eight runs. Saegis never really managed to get a partnership going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Anushka Perera was the only batsman to reach the 20 run mark as the other batsmen succumbed to some disciplined bowling by BMS. Wanindu Hasaranga and Geshan Wimaladharma shared four middle order wickets between them before Janith Liyanage cleaned up the tail with three wickets in an over.
Former Anandian Wimaladharma was at it once again with the bat for BMS, hitting the Saegis bowlers to all parts of the ground much to the delight of the fans present at the P. Sara Oval. Wimaladharma hit 46 off just 25 balls inclusive of 4 massive sixes and 4 fours. Sadeera Samarawickrama(17*) and Hashan Dumindu(29*) completed the run chase with an unbroken stand of 39 as BMS romped home with almost 10 overs and 9 wickets to spare.
With this win, BMS are set to represent Sri Lanka in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals scheduled for later this year in Sri Lanka. They are also the defending champions of this tournament and will look to defend their title once again.
