The Colombo Rowing Club will be the battlefield for the long standing traditional rivalry between Royal College and S. Thomas’ College, as the two schools battle it out in the 40th Royal Thomian Regatta tomorrow.
S.Thomas’ go into the regatta this year as defending champions of both the T. Noel Fernando Memorial Trophy for the overall regatta, and the Crossed Oars for the prestigious and all important Boat Race for the Senior Fours. The tally for the overall regatta stands at 18 to 15 in favour of S.Thomas’ College.
The Regatta comprises of 11 races with a total of 52 points up for grabs, with the T. Noel Fernando Memorial Trophy being awarded to the crew that accumulates the most points. The Boat Race will be rowed for the Crossed Oars, and is worth 12 points.
Both Crews have had mixed fortunes this season, but will know that a Royal Thomian is a completely different kettle of fish. It is the climax of the rowing season for both crews, and the main event for which they train throughout the year.
