Mohomed Nafaiz scored a brace either side of half time as Blue Star eased to a 4-1 win putting Thihariya Youth deep into the relegation zone.
Blue Star is a tough fixture for any club and at the Vernon Fernando in front of the Blue Star home fans it is double trouble. Thihariya Youth found out all about it early when Mohomed Farzan gave the first goal and Ramees made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute.
Blue Star dominated the first half and Nafais made it 3-0 going into halftime.
Nafaiz got his second goal in the 51st minute and with victory in the bag Blue Star coach made a few substitutions giving the youngsters a chance. This broke the rhythm of Blue Star and they were unable to add more to the tally while Afeel Mohomed scored a consolation goal in the 73rd minute for Thihariya.
Solid goes their merry way
After an initial struggle Solid SC scored three on their way to a 3-0 win over Don Bosco at the Kekirawa Public Grounds.
After a string of losses in the first half of the season Don Bosco have improved in putting together a few wins and they proved a tough nut to crack for Solid SC. Solid led by Afeez in attack struggled initially and could only score their first just before half time through Afeez Olayemi.
In the second half too Don Bosco played a well-disciplined defensive game but as the game match went on Solid found spaces to attack. Afeez added his second in the 71st minute while Olafemi Shola scored the third seven minutes later.
New Youngs second half comeback stuns Police
New Youngs came from two goals down to beat Police 3-2 at Sir Albert F. Peiris Grounds.
Police imploded with just over half an hour left in the game which kept them in the relegation zone. This is the second time in as many matches that Police had given away winning positions and has become the hallmark of their 2014 campaign. Credit should go to New Youngs who kept their pressure and desire even after going down 2-0.
Sakeef opened the scoring for Police in the 13th minute and it stayed the same until halftime. Ranish doubled the lead in the 56th minute but the jubilation was short lived as D. Piuslas dragged a goal back from the restart. Chandrasekara equalized in the 65th minute and the pressure got the better of Police as K. De Silva guided the ball into his own net with 5 minutes remaining to an elated home crowd.
Crystal Palace gets another crucial point
Mohomed Azmil scored the equalizer in the second half as newly promoted Crystal Palace drew 1-1 against Matara City Club at the Matara Football Complex.
The division I runners-up Crystal Palace are faring much better than their division I winners Thihariya Youth, having double the points as Thihariya and on 15th place compared to Thihariya’s last place in the points table.
Victor Ikenna gave the lead to Matara City in the 30th minute while Azmil equalized in the 66th miniute.
Pelicans down Java Lane in a tense battle
Pelicans scrapped through to register three points against Java Lane with a 2-1 win at St.Anne’s College Grounds.
Java Lane playing their first match after the ugly incident at City Football Complex which left their midfield lynchpin Madawa Ruwansiri and Aleem banned for one year and Maxi Lettren and Ismirly serving three match bans had a hearty performance but the void made by the missing personnel were too much on the day.
Sugeewan gave the lead to the Pelicans in the 8th minute but Mohomed Zarwan managed to make it 1-1 in the 62nd minute but Nuwan Ekanayaka restored the lead for Pelicans two minutes later.
