Blue Star SC, Kalutara has appointed Rohitha Rajapaksha as the Chairman of the club beginning January 2020.
Blue Star is one of the biggest football clubs in the country established in 1978. After coming up through the divisions and settling on top, they won their first league in 2003/04. The club with the biggest and vociferous fan base has come close to winning the championship multiple times, most recently in 2018/19, but has constantly failed to overcome the final hurdle.
Performance has been inconsistent from Blue Star in the last few years much like the administration which has failed the team on and off the field. However, with the new appointment of Rohitha Rajapaksha who will be taking over as the Chairman, the hope is that greener pastures await the club. Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksha will act as a Senior Advisor.
“Our target is to win the tournament, not 2nd place or 3rd place. Everyone in this club has the ability to go to the top. Our aim is to bring this club up to a higher standard, that is what Namal Rajapaksha had also told us. We have to have our vision of winning. If you don’t have the vision you can never win. Wear the jersey as a champion and always trust the player next to you,” the newly appointed chairman Rohitha Rajapaksha expressed his views in an event attended by club players and officials.
Blue Star has also appointed Tuwan Raheem as their new Head Coach. Raheem will replace Mohamed Pitchchai who was their interim coach. Raheem is a former Sri Lanka national and Air Force player. He coached Air Force and is currently coaching Hameed Al Husseinie College.
