Binura Fernando ends with 11 wickets

The inter school cricket encounter between Nalanda College and DS Senanayake College which commenced yesterday concluded today at the Nalanda grounds. 

  

The visitors batting in their first innnings managed to score a commanding 285 runs for the loss of 9 wickets which set up an interesting day two. Nalanda college in their first innings were shell-shocked by the bowling of D. S Senanayake and were shot out for a measly 43 runs in 16.1 overs. Woshantha Silva scored 10 runs for the hosts but the highlight of the day came when left arm quick Binura Fernando made it a living hell for the home batters claiming 8 wickets for 24 runs. It was a fine swing bowling performance by the D. S fast bowler who single handedly took the game away from Nalanda. 

Nalanda made to follow on played a bettered their batting performance in the 2nd innings ending day two on 111 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 57 overs when bad light stopped play. Avishka De Silva contributed 30 runs while Binura Feranando reached his 50th wicket chipping in with another 3 wickets in the 2nd innings.

The match stopped early due to bad light making DS the winners of the 1st innings. The early stop to the match meant that the visitors were deprived of a well earned win after having their opponents in a tight corner right throughout the match.
