MartinGuptill, one of only a handful of players to havescored a doublecentury in one-day cricket, willreturn to the NewZealand squad for next month’s one-day seriesagainst SriLanka.
All-rounders DougBracewelland JimmyNeeshamalso return in the 13-man squad named Thursday.
Guptill, whose unbeaten 237 against the West Indies in the 2015 World Cup is thesecond highest ODI score ofalltime, has been sidelined by
injury in recentmonths.
“It’s great to have Martin back after injury and he’ll obviously add all hisclassand experienceto theside,”selector GavinLarsen said as New Zealand build towards next year’s World Cup inEngland and Wales.
With theselectorsendeavouring to give opportunities to a wider group of players, incumbent one-daywicketkeeper TomLathamwillmiss the Sri Lankaseries, while Colin de Grandhomme has been rested.
Latham’sabsence paves the way for 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsmanTimSeifert to make his ODI debut.
“With the World Cup nowon our radar thereisa need to look at different players over the homesummer,”Larsen said.
“We want to win the one-day seriesagainst SriLanka,and we want to gain as much newinformation as possible while doing so.”
