St Sebastian’s hosted St Peter’s in their U19 Singer Cricket tournament. Peterites after a massive victory in their previous match against President’s College showed signs of some consistency in both departments of the game.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. They managed to pile up a decent first innings total of 239 in 75.2 overs. Tharusha Fernando top-scored with 45 runs while Ashar Warnakulasuriya scored a valuable 44. Taneesha Weerakoon, the highest wicket taker for St Peter’s took another fifer while skipper Vinu Mohotti got some numbers in the wicket column after some time, finishing with figures of 3 for 53.

The visitors came on to bat in the third session of day one and they were 111 for the loss of 3 wickets at stumps. Peterites collapsed in the morning session of day one, losing 7 wickets for just 60 runs. Praveen Jayawickrama bagged 5 wickets for 31 runs while Nimesh Bandara chipped in with 3 wickets helping his team to bundle out the visitors for just 161 runs in 49.3 overs. Hashan Wanasekara top scored with a resolute 43 for St Peter’s.

The hosts’ scored 161 for the loss of 5 wickets before they declared their innings giving the visitors 239 runs to win in the last session. Nuwanindu Fernando with a valuable half century for the home side while right arm leg spinner Dinal Jayakody bagged 2 for 65.
At the close of play  St Peter’s were 100 for the loss of 5 wickets giving St Sebastian’s College a first innings victory.

St Benedict’s Vs Bandaranayke MV  

Bens hosted Bandaranyake MV in their U19 division 1 group A match at Kotahena. The visitors won the toss and put the home side to bat first.

St Benedict’s posted a massive first innings stand of 320 all out in 69.1 overs. Skipper Thulina Dilshan smashed a scintillating 151 for the home team while the rest of the batters chipped in with valuable cameos. Janindu Jayawardane bagged 6 wickets for 102 runs for the visitors.

Bandaranayake MV too put up brilliant team effort with the bat but they fell 3 runs short from taking away first innings points. They were bundled out for 318 runs in 86.4 overs, Thisara Nissanka top scoring with 74 runs while Wageesha Wanniarachchi scored a valuable 63 runs. With the ball, Madushan Harshana took 4 for 73 for the winners.

The home side came on to bat for their second innings and they were 143 for the loss 6 wickets in 40 overs at the close of play.
