Beefy’s Crusade for Sri Lanka’s Underprivileged

172

Sir Ian Botham, England’s legendary fast bowler who has set his heart on helping Sri Lanka’s underprivileged children will undertake a 160 mile walk in various locations around Sri Lanka such as Killinochchi, Kandy, Colombo, Galle, and culminate in Seenigama.

An objective of the walk is also to infest peace and harmony between the North and South

The walk which will commence on the 1st of November and end on the 9th will feature celebrities Steve Waugh and Allan Border , two of Australia’s greatest captains, Sourav Ganguly, one of India’s greatest batsman and Sri Lanka’s very own Mahela Jayawardene, Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara. The South African Rugby World Cup winning Morne du Plessis will also join the cause.

After the devastation of the Tsunami of 2004 which killed up to 35,000 people and displaced over 500,000 Sir Ian Botham paid a visit to Sri Lanka on behalf of the Laureus Foundation to assess the situation and came up with a sports based project in the town of Seenigama to help rebuild the community.

The walk will support the Foundation of Goodness which has been at the helm of bridging the gap between the North and South with many projects. The Sri Lankan charity involves cricketing heroes Muttiah Muralidaran, Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara and is managed by Kushil Gunasekara; whose main objective is to positively change underprivileged children’s lives through sport.  The Tharunayata Hetak organization will also lend support to this event.

Beefy has previously raised over GBP13 million for various causes over the world and would raising funds for the ‘Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’.
