Evolution Club of Sri Lanka will be presenting the island with Autocross time attack, the latest racing discipline to take the Island shores on the 12th of August 2017 at the Pannala Autodrome.
Organized as an exclusive event for Mitsubishi Evolution automobiles, the event will feature the iconic model of the Mitsubishi brand ranging from the generation 01 to the latest edition of generation 10 that will battle out in three categories in the Autocross format.
Autocross is a timed competition where the drivers are expected to navigate through a pre-defined marked course one at a time. This form of racing differs from other types such as road racing or oval racing as there will only be one automobile on the track driving against the clock rather than other cars. This form of racing has a major emphasis on safe competition and active participation and thereby can be considered as an entry level that provides the stepping stone for ambitious drivers who wish to graduate to rallying, rally cross or circuit racing.
Competitors will be categorized into the following three categories according to the specs of their car.
- Street touring
- Super street touring
- Ultra touring
STREET TOURING
This category has more restrictive rules which car should be present fully stock parts which MMC factory fitted.
- STRICTLY STOCK TURBO ONLY.
- STANDARD ECU AND RE FLASH ALLOWED
- ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION NOT ALLOWED.
- LOWERING COIL SPRINGS ALLOWED.
- ROAD TYRE COMPOUND ALLOWED. (ROAD LEGAL SEMI SLICK NOT ALLOWED)
- WEIGHT REDUCTION NOT ALLOWED.
- ONLY 95 OCTANE ALLOWED.
- INTAKE AND EXHAUST ALLOWED TO CHANGE.
SUPER STREET TOURING
This class is the next level up from street touring which allow drivers to add some limited performance parts to handle your car better and gain more power to get through course quicker.
- STRICTLY STOCK TURBO ONLY.
- PERFORMANCE MANIFOLD, INTAKE AND EXHAUST ALLOWED.
- ANY TYPE OF ECU ALLOWED.
- ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION ALLOWED.
- ANY TYPE OF TIRES ALLOWED.
- ONLY 95 OCTANE ALLOWED.
- 7. WEIGHT REDUCTION ALLOWED FOR SPECIFIC ITEMS. (SEATS, SPOLER, CARPETS)
ULTRA TOURING
This is where you can change your car to unlimited levels of modification.
- NO TURBO RESTRICTION.
- ADJUSTABLE SUSPENSION ALLOWED.
- ANY TYPE OF TIRE COMPOUND ALLOWED.
- WEIGHT REDUCTION ALLOWED.
- STROKER KITS ALLOWED.
- NO RESTRICTION OF WEIGHT REDUCTION.
- ANY FUEL TYPE ALLOWED.
- ANY TYPE OF ECU ALLOWED
Speaking to ThePapare.com, Riyaz Razick, treasurer of the Evolution Club of Sri Lanka added that
“This is the first time an event of this nature will be organised for Evo’s in the country. Autocross time attack is a very exciting form of motor racing for both the drivers and the spectators. Unlike in road racing or in rally cross drivers will have to maneuver their cars in a very close area making them very busy in the driving seat keeping in mind that they need to complete the course with a good time.”
“We are expecting a good turn out and this will be a great opportunity for Evo owners to get together and have a great time of fellowship and to get behind the wheel of their beloved machines and test the skills. We are also expecting few of the cars and drivers who compete in the SL GT – Supercars who will light up the event with their race ready machines”
