The second unofficial Youth Test between the Sri Lanka Emerging Team and Bangladesh Emerging Team ended in a draw today (3rd November) at Dambulla. The 2-match series also ended in a draw, 0-0.
Sri Lanka posted 261 runs on the board for their first innings in reply to Bangladesh’s 251 thanks to middle order batter Pavan Rathnayake’s fighting half-century. Rathnayake top scored for the hosts with 69 runs off 119 balls with 8 fours and a six.
Ripon Mondol was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, as he grabbed 4 wickets for 83 runs. Nahid Rana also picked up 3 crucial wickets for 56 runs.
The visitors began their second innings 10 runs ahead and came up with a solid batting effort this time around as they posted 149 runs for 2 wickets before rain stopped play for the day.
Both Bangladesh’s opening batters scored half-centuries, while off-spinner Kalhara Senarathne starred with the ball, dismissing both batters and ending with figures of 2/42. Sri Lanka seamer Chamika Gunasekara, who picked up a 9-wicket haul in the first innings, won the player of the match award.
