The Sri Lanka Emerging Team registered a 99-run win (DLS) over the Bangladesh Emerging Team in the 1st One Day encounter of the 3-match series, which was played today (17th October) at Dambulla.
Bangladesh Skipper Parvez Hossain Emon won the toss and invited the hosts to take the first lease of the wicket.
Sohan de Livera and Mohammad Shamaaz opened the batting for Sri Lanka, but their partnership lasted only six balls as the former was dismissed for a duck.
Shamaaz and Pavan Rathnayake steadied the innings, adding 60-run partnership for the 2nd wicket before the latter was stumped for 19 runs in the 14th over.
The wicket-keeper batter Shamaaz played a crucial hand for the hosts, scoring 62 runs off 89 balls with 9 fours.
The middle order batters Navod Paranavithana and Ahan Wickramasinghe also starred with the bat, notching up vital half-centuries.

Paranavithana’s fabulous knock of 66 runs came off 71 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while the Skipper Wickramasinghe played an aggressive knock of 68 runs off 53 balls with 6 fours and a six at a strike rate of 128.30.
The rain stopped play when Sri Lanka’s scorecard read at 245/8 in the 49th over. The visitors were set a target of 251 from 47 overs as per the DLS calculations.
In their turn with the ball, Sri Lanka dominated displaying a brilliant collective bowling performance.
The new-ball bowling pair Chamika Gunasekara and Eshan Malinga worked to begin the visitors’ collapse, knocking over their opening batting pair for just 16 runs inside first 5 overs.
The off-spinner Ashian Daniel and wrist spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth then took the control of the middle phase of the innings, picking up wickets at regular intervals.
Daniel made his presence felt with an excellent spell, scalping 4 wickets for 30 runs, while Viyaskanth snared 2 crucial wickets to set the tone for the victory.
Malinga wrapped things up, taking 3 wickets for 36 runs in his 7-over spell as Sri Lanka restricted the visitors to 152. The second match of the series will be played on the 19th of October at the same venue.
