Sri Lanka took on Bangladesh in the 3rd ODI of the U 19 tour at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium, Dhaka today.
The game went down to the wire with Sri Lanka batting first and getting to a mammoth 277 for 8 wickets in their 50 overs. However the home team did well to chase the target closing at 278 for 9 in the 50th over. All of the top order fared well for the visitors; Sadeera Samarawickrema top scored with 83 in 101 balls which included 11 fours. Sandun Samarakkody smashed it around for a quick fire 65 in just 61 deliveries and at the top Kusal Mendis held steady for 47. The partnerships at the top helped propel Sri Lanka to a good score. The bowling for Bangladesh was slightly wayward, Jubair Hossain scalped 3 for 60 and Mustafizur Rahman chipped in with 2 for 49.
Sri Lanka must have believed they had enough on the board but a splendid chase from Bangladesh had the visitors plans going astray. Paceman Roshan Anurddha held his end up with an economical spell to keep a lid on the home side; his 26 for 1 in 7 over included two maidens. However spearhead Binura Fernando proved expensive at 2 for 71 in his ten. Ramesh Mendis bowled splendidly to wipe out the tail, once again giving Sri Lanka some hope of curtailing the home side and Chamika Karunaratne contributed with 2 for 63 all of which proved ineffective in the end.
Mossadek Hossain for Bangladesh did grave damage and was unfortunately adjudged lbw on 99. His vigil stood for 124 balls and included 10 splendid fours. Yasir Ali Choudry played a blistering inning of 22 not out in 11 balls which included 2 sixes to take Bangladesh home.
