Former Sri Lankan opener, Avishka Gunawardene has been appointed as the Sri Lanka under 19 assistant coach until the ICC Youth World Cup in 2016 in Bangladesh.
Avishka was previously the director of coaching at Royal College for the last year and before that he was the head coach at his former club, Sinhalese Sports Club.
Under Avishka, Royal College was promoted to play the division one tournament this year after winning the division two tournament comprehensively last season.
38-year old Avishka was an explosive left-handed batsman until he retired in 2009. He represented Sri Lanka in 61 ODIs and 6 Tests.
With a vast knowledge of the game, Avishka will be deputizing Roger Wijesuriya for the forthcoming Junior World Cup.
