Sri Lanka ‘A’ team coach Avishka Gunawardena has been appointed as the ‘Batting Coach’ of the National team replacing Jon Lewis, who is on leave.

Full-time batting coach, Englishman Jon Lewis has gone on leave due to a family commitment and won’t be with the team for the 2nd Test against Australia in Canberra which is scheduled to start on the 1st of February.

Former Sri Lanka opening batsman, Avishka Gunawardena has had a successful stint with the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team since his appointment and coached the team to a 5-0 clean sweep in the Unofficial ODI series against Ireland ‘A’ most recently. Gunawardena will fly to Australia tonight to join the team and will remain with the squad until the end of the 2nd Test.

Gunawardena has coached the Sri Lanka U19 and several Super Provincial teams before this and has served the National team in various interim stints.
