16-year old Avishka Fernando continued his fabulous batting form when he smashed a classic century for his alma mater and left-arm spinner Pramesh Fernando captured 6 wickets as St. Sebastian’s College won their under19 division 1 cricket fixture on first innings against D.S Senanayake College at Tyronne Fernando grounds.
D.S Senanayake College skipper Harith Maduwantha won the toss of coin and elected to field first. The host team from Moratuwa utilized the decision from the opponents as they posted a healthy 283 runs in 84.5 overs with their star batsman Avishka Fernando hitting an eye-pleasing 139 runs which had 14 fours and 2 sixes. Visal Senanayake and Veeshan De Mel contributed with 32 and 31* respectively. Sachin Bandara was the most impressive bowler as he picked up 4 scalps while seamer Thimila Vidyasekara and off-spinner Shifran Muthalif took 5 wickets amongst them.
The Senanayakians were 67 for no loss overnight but only their top-order prospered as they fell short of 35 runs to register a first innings win. Left-handed Kavin Bandara stroked 48 runs for the visitors while the left-arm spinner from Sebs, Pramesh Fernando bowled a superb spell taking 6 wickets to torment the DS batting lineup.
St. Sebastian’s ended the game on the safe side as they were 67 for the loss of 4 wickets at stumps on day 2 in the second innings.
