Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu produced a superb all-round performance for Falcons against Barmy Army at FairBreak Invitational T20 Tournament 2023, but she ended up on the losing side.

Falcons skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill won the toss and invited the Barmy Army to take the first lease of the wicket. The decision turned out to be a good one as they managed to restrict Barmy Army to 143 thanks to Athapatthu’s outstanding bowling performance.

She picked up 4 wickets for 17 runs in her 4-over spell putting her side on top at the innings break. Athapaththu and Danni Wyatt opened the batting for the Falcons and the duo stitched together a 77-run stand for the first wicket.

However, after the dismissals of the opening pair, Falcons lost their way and continued to lose wickets at regular intervals being restricted to 134/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Athapaththu was the chief scorer for Falcons as she made 44 runs off 33 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 133.33. The 19-year-old Kavisha Egodage, Sri Lankan origin UAE player was the pick of the bowlers for Barmy Army as she snared 3 wickets for 17 runs.
