Sri Lanka registered a comfortable 8-wicket win over Thailand in the 3rd Quarterfinal of the Asian Games Women’s Cricket competition in Hangzhou.
After two washouts yesterday, where India and Pakistan progressed through to the semis on seeding, this was the 1st completed quarterfinal, albeit having been reduced to 15 overs a side.
Thailand opted to bat first after winning the toss and manged 78/7 in their allotment of overs thanks to a fighting 31* by all-rounder Chanida Sutthiruang. Incidentally, she was the only Thai player to get to double figures too. For Sri Lanka, Inoshi Fernando, who has had a breakthrough 2023, claimed career-best figures of 4/10.
Chasing 79 for a win, Sri Lanka got their in just over 10 overs, with openers Chamari Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani doing the bulk of the scoring. The pair put on 54 in 6.2 overs, before being dismissed by left-arm spinner Thipatcha Putthawong.
Harshitha Samarawickrama and Vishmi Gunaratne took Sri Lanka through to victory without further losses, the former ending the game with a six.
Sri Lanka are set to face Pakistan in the 2nd Semi-final on Sunday 24th.
