It was another cold gloomy day-10th day of the 17th Asian Games.One of Sri Lanka’s celebrated participants who was also an outside medal prospect for the contingent, failed to get to a podium finish in the Women’s 400 M final.

Chandrika Subhashini Rasnayake running in Lane 6 was relegated to 4th place with a season’s best of 52.47 seconds.She tried her level best but the Indian Athlete who was alongside her in Lane 5 was taller and her longer strides was a huge advantage in the final outcome.The Vietnamese Competitor in Lane 7 won the Silver Medal with a personal best 52.06 seconds.The Gold Medal was won by the Bahranian Athlete in Lane 4 finishing in 51.59 seconds.She was slower than the Games Record time of 51.11 seconds in the Heat.

The Boxing was for 3 Competitors.In the Quarter Final of the Women’s Fly weight of 48-51Kgs Erandi Gimhani De Silva in the Blue corner was beaten at 0-3 rounds It was an unanimous decision at 107-119.In the Women’s Middle weight division of 69-75 Kgs. Shiromali Weeraratne was knocked out in the 2nd Round.In the Quarter Final bout her opponent from China won the 1st Round. In the next round she was dealt a pain ful blow to her belly.The Sri Lankan fell down and despite bieng on her feet at her corner the Referee did not allow the fight to go on.The Sri Lankan Officials had Appealed aginst the decision but it was later understood that it was unsuccesful.In the Round of 16, Yoonus Mohamed Dilshan was beaten by the opponent from Iraq by 0-3 Rounds.He fought from the Blue corner and lost 80-90 points in an unanimous decision to end the participation at the Games. 

In Wrestling, Chamara Milinda Pattiaarachchi lost in the Quarter Final of the Men’s Freestyle 65 Kgs..He occupied the Blue corner and was beaten by the Mongolian opponent by 0-4 rounds at 0-10 points.

Tommorrow,in Men’s Hockey, Sri Lanka will meet Singapore in the clash of the wooden spoonists to decide the 09/10 places.Skipper Thusith Rathnasiri is hoping that the team will go allout to bow out with a much improved performance. In Athletics, High Jumper Manjula Kumara Wijesekera will be in action in the Final.The Men’s 400 M Relay Team will also run in the Heats. Sailer,Chameera Lakshan Gunawardene will race in the last two outings in Mistral Men’s Windsurfing. Hei is lying 7th and last after 10 races.  

China has topped 100 Gold medals and lead over South Korea and Japan in the Medal tally.
