Asia Rugby aborts first half of 2020!

In continuous efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 around the globe, Asia Rugby has decided to cancel all competitions and events scheduled during the period starting from the 1st of February 2020 to 30th June 2020.

Hence, the Asia Rugby Championship-Division 1 tournament scheduled for May will not be conducted until the latter part of this year, as Asia Rugby continues to monitor the global health situation in close collaboration with World Rugby. Asia Rugby will send an official update to the member unions by the end of this month with regards to the possibilities of conducting the tournaments.

This will also impact the Asia sevens calendar which was to be held by August this year. Asia Rugby will be left with an uphill task to carefully restructure the year’s schedule and fit in all competitions within a span of six months.

The Sri Lanka Tuskers had a rather disappointing outing at last year’s Asia Rugby Championship Division 1 tournament, going down 39-22 to the Philippines and ending up as the 2nd-Runners-up in the newly structured tournament under Roshan Weeraratne’s captaincy. If the Asia Rugby calendar is restructured and tournaments are rescheduled for the latter part of the year, the Tuskers would come out of quarantine with a mighty task ahead as a busy season awaits them.
