Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Head of Cricket Operations Ashley de Silva as acting CEO after two rounds of an interview process failed to fetch the right candidate.
Sri Lanka Cricket held interviews in January to hire a suitable candidate for the post of CEO with former Sri Lanka skipper Bandula Warnapura as front-runner to take over the crucial appointment.
However Warnapura, 59, who is serving as the Development Manager of the Asian Cricket Council, was rejected as he was one year away from SLC’s mandatory retirement age of 60.
Accordingly, de Silva, a former wicket keeper batsman, presented himself for an interview before SLC officials and got the nod to replace current CEO Ajith Jayasekara.
The 49-year old de Silva’s appointment is effective from April 1, 2013.
Meanwhile Carlton Bernadus, the Umpire’s Manager of Sri Lanka Cricket will replace de Silva as acting head of Cricket Operations with effect from April 1, 2013.
“We have appointed them as acting with effect from next month,” confirmed Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.
