Three matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
St. Aloysius College, Galle vs D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo
The traditional fixture between St. Aloysius College and D.S. Senanayake College commenced today at Galle International Cricket Stadium. After winning the toss, the Aloysius skipper opted to bat first and declared their innings at 283 runs for 7 wickets. Right handed batsman Ashen Bandara who represented the Sri Lanka U19 team in the recently concluded World cup, stroked a magnificent century for Galle boys.

Pasindu Adhithya and Muditha Lakshan grabbed 2 wickets each for D.S. Senanayake College. In reply, D.S. Senanayake College was 17 runs for 4 wickets at stumps on day one. The match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Group B fixture between Prince of Wales College and Maris Stella College commenced today at Kadirana Grounds. After winning the toss, Maris Stella skipper Lasith Croospulle opted to bat first but only managed to post 172 runs on the board for their first innings. Right handed batsman Mark Fernando (41) and left handed batsman Kevin Perera (38) top scored with the bat for Negombo boys while left arm spinner Kaumal Nanayakkara starred with the ball for Cambrians with picking up 4 wickets for 43 runs.

In reply, Cambrians were struggling with the bat as they finished day one on 98 runs for 7 wickets. Left arm spinner Pasindu Ushetti and right arm fast medium bowler Naveen Fernando picked up three wickets each for lads from Negombo. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

St. Servatius College, Matara vs Gurukula College, Kelaniya
The Group C fixture between St. Servatius College and Gurukula College commenced today at Sooriyawewa International Cricket Stadium. After being put into bat first, St. Servatius College only managed to post 191 runs on the board as they were bowled out within 61.4 overs. Chethaka Denuwan (42) and Pasindu Manupriya (39) were the major contributors with the bat for lads from Matara.

Yushan Malith was the pick of the bowlers for the Kelaniya boys as he picked up 4 wickets for 24 runs. In reply, Gurukula College managed to post 116 runs for 3 wickets when umpires called stumps on day one.
