Fox Hill Supercross, the premier motor sporting event of the Island, celebrated its 25th edition yesterday (20th) at the Diyatalawa Fox Hill race track.
Organized by Sri Lanka Military Academy, Foxhill supercross serves as the leading fund raising event aimed at the welfare of the young trainee military men and women of the country. This year the race meet was conducted by the Sri Lanka Automobile Drivers Association under the guidance of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) and the Ministry of Sports.
The Fox Hill race track is considered a fast and tricky track which makes it a dangerous but exciting track for the seasoned competitors who dare to test their skills in trying conditions. While rookies are discouraged from the difficult task, Fox hill draws the Island’s best drivers and riders to Diyathalawa and the Silver Jubilee witnessed over 240 entries for the 23 races that was worked out.
Ashan Silva of Dubai 24hr endurance racing international fame, was adjudged the best driver while reigning National Motocross champion Ishan Dassanayake was adjudged the best rider for the second year running at Fox Hill Supercross.
Ashan Silva makes a return to Gravel racing in style
Ashan Silva who recently brought honor to Sri Lanka in the 24hr endurance race in Dubai made a comeback to Sri Lankan Gravel racing at Fox Hill Super cross 2017 after a lapse of over a year. Silva took part in the SL GT cars up to 3500cc event where a record number of 25 entries were included and was head and shoulders above the rest of the drivers. Driving a 2000cc Mitsubishi Evo, Silva comfortably won the first heat of the event to qualify for the final showdown. In the final race he started at pole position and gained a superb lead from the start as he maneuvered his vehicle with ease in the tricky track to win the SL GT Super car event, considered the fastest race in the Island circuit. Ashan was adjudged the champion driver at Fox Hill for his performance.
Speaking to Thepapare.com after being crowned as the champion driver Silva stated that “I have missed the gravel racing experience and racing in front of the home crowd, Fox hill is one of the best races in the country and I am really glad to have been able to come back here and become the best driver”
Prince of motocross Ishan Dassanayake defends his Fox hill title
Having being adjudged the best rider at Fox Hill Supercross 2016, Ishan Dassanayake made a stunning come back from the nasty fall he had earlier this month at Vijayabahu motorcross in Boyaganey and managed to swipe all the awards in the races he participated in. In the ‘MX Racing’ – Racing motor bikes over 100cc up to 125cc event Dassanayake got into an early lead and was in control from the beginning to clinch the first silverware of the day. However in the MX – Over 175cc Up to 250cc (4T) & Over 100cc up to 125cc (2T) he had to work hard as there was stiff competition from the other riders. The Moto 01 of the event Dassanayake did not get a good start and trailed behind his team mate Rugved Barguje, the 16 year old Indian rider but managed to get into the front using his experience and clinch the first race.
Intense action unfolded in the second Moto of the same race as all the riders were determined to correct their mistakes from the previous showing. Dassanayake started off as the 04th place competitor and clawed his way back to the front but a mistake in a corner resulted in him losing balance. However courageous Dassanayake did not give up but rejoined the race and provided the crowds with an absolute thriller as he again managed to get the better of three riders in front of him to the checkered flag and lay claim to the best rider award at the 25th Fox Hill.

Driving a Honda Civic in the Group SL-H cars up to 1618cc event Kushan yet again had no problem as he started in the pole position for the best timing in the qualification rounds. Peiris got onto a commanding lead and was not troubled by the rest of the drivers as he managed to leave the pack of drivers in the dust and sped his way to the finish line. Having already won two races in his pet events this young driver was in the big league as he competed in the SL GT Super car event where the Island’s best drivers go against each other. Peiris managed to hold off the reigning national champion Ushan Perera to finish third in the first heat of the event and repeated his good showing in the final of the same event clinching the 4th place and managing to contain Ushan Perera to 5th Place. Kushan Peiris is showing all the necessary ingredients necessary to become a driving superstar and will definitely be one to look out for in the future.
