Outstanding win for Aruna Darshana in China

Sri Lankan athlete Aruna Darshana, who participated in The 2nd Belt and Road Invitational athletics championship held in China, managed to win the gold medal of 400m event today (28).

Aruna Darshan, finished the event with a time of 45.48 seconds and was able to take the lead from the beginning of this race itself.

Yesterday (27th), Aruna was able to establish a place in the final by winning the preliminary round of 400m event, recording a time of 46.26 seconds and this tournament championship belongs to the C category of the World Athletics Continental Tour.

Aruna participated in this tournament with the aim of qualifying for this year’s Paris Olympics and even though he could not exceed the qualifying time in this competition, the bonus points gained by winning will be crucial to reach the top of the qualification ranking.

Aruna also participated in the 200m preliminary round today (28) and won heat 16 with a time of 21.23 seconds.

The finals of 200m event is scheduled to be held tomorrow (29).
