Sri Lankan sprinter Aruna Darshana, despite achieving a personal best, was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 Men’s 400M race semi-finals at the Stade de France on Tuesday evening (August 6).

Earlier in the week, he became the only Olympian from Sri Lanka in the Paris Olympics 2024 to advance to the semi-finals, making the nation proud.

Darshana placed third in his heat with a time of 44.99 seconds, advancing to the semi-finals where he competed in Lane 4, a prime lane for track events.

He started strong but fell behind after the first 100 meters. Despite finishing fifth with a new personal best of 44.75 seconds, he was Disqualified for a Lane Infringement under Rule TR17.2.3.

Had he not been Disqualified, Darshana’s time would have qualified him for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

At 25 years old, he has gone further than any other Sri Lankan athlete in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

ThePapare extends best wishes for his future endeavors and encourages ongoing support for his athletic journey and achievements in Sri Lankan athletics.
