The Army Para games will see a start tomorrow at the Diyagama International Stadium with an active participation of Soldiers from the countries of Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Malaysia.

The history of the Army Para games go two decades back in 1991 when the games were first started off with the name Army Disabled Sports Meet but the meet was re-branded in 2010 to be the Army Para Games in order to increase the participation. Organized under the purview of the Army Commander Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva, the tournament will see a start on the 16th of September and conclude on the 18th of September. The organizers have made all arrangements to stage a professional event in the coming days at the Diyagama Stadium.

A total of 450 differently-abled war heroes will showcase their talents in the next three days participating in fourteen track and field events. The tournament will commence with the opening ceremony that is scheduled to start at 8.30 a.m. The Army Commander who would signal the start for the games will grace the ceremony. A series of events will take in the three-day meet while a participant base comprising of athletes who have represented their respective nations at Para Olympics is expected to take part.

The inclusion of Army personnel from the countries around Asia is a new addition in the Army Para games and will increase the sportsmanship and the intensity of the entire meet. As a mark of friendship and goodwill, the organizers have invited several differently abled soldiers as observers. The inclusion of Soldiers from the North and East is also been discussed with the increase of the number of soldiers residing in those regions and will be considered in the coming years.

The event which will be sponsored by Dialog will be held with the primary objection of selecting the national contingent targeting the 2016 Rio Para-Olympics that will include athletes from the other forces as well.
