APIIT – Sports Extravaganza – Day 2

Sports extravaganza organized by the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology commenced its second day today 30th of November at Police Park grounds and S Thomas’s College, Mount Lavinia.

Day 2 had sporting events basketball, football as well as badminton. There was a participation of multiple state and private universities.

The football and basketball matches were held at Police Park grounds and the badminton matches were held at S’ Thomas’s College indoor badminton courts.

 

Basketball

The basketball matches picked up where it was left on day one, in the girls category the basketball championship went to Royal Institute and the best player was Vishmi Dias (RI), SLIIT came close by as the runners-up and the APIIT girls’ basketball team became the third.

Boys basketball winners were again Royal Institute, with the best player being Sudesh from the same team, NSBM team became second and the ANC team was not far behind banging the spot of second runners-up.

 

Football

Day 2 of the sports extravaganza held at Police park grounds was the battle between the football playing teams from state and private universities. The football match was interesting since a multiple of the matches ended as draws. Finally through the scores obtained teams APIIT A, AUSTON, CINEC, NSBM, RI, SLIIT, University of Moratuwa and ACBT came through to the quarter finals.

First match of the quarter finals was between NSBM and APIIT A teams and was won by NSBM. Second match was between CINEC and AUSTON teams and was won by AUSTON. In the match between ACBT and RI, RI emerged victorious. And finally in the match between SLIIT and University of Moratuwa was won by UOM sending all the winners through to the Semi Finals.

The first semi-finals match was between AUSTON vs NSBM where AUSTON emerged victorious and got through to the finals. Second match was between UOM and CINEC where UOM emerged victorious.

Finals were played between AUSTON and University of Moratuwa where the winner were decided through penalties. And through the penalties University of Moratuwa became the Football champions at the Sports Extravaganza 2014.

Badminton

The matches started off with the group category where again there was a massive participation of various individuals from state and private universities. Due to this reason the badminton matches had to be continued to Sunday the 7th of December.

SAITM won against ICBT

NSBM A team won against ACBT

UOM won against CINEC

SLIIT won against NSBM

 

Teams APIIT, SLIIT, University of Moratuwa and NSBM A got through to the semifinals where the scores were as follows;

Badminton team event NSBM vs UOM was won by NSBM (21/14, 21/4)

Women’s Doubles -NSBM vs UOM (21/10, 21/7) won by NSBM 

Men’s Doubles – (21/13, 21/15) won by UOM

Men’s Singles – won by NSBM A team

The day 2 ended for badminton with APIIT badminton team reaching finals under the mixed team category. They will be playing against NSBM in the finals
