Anusha hangs her gloves on a high

The 7th Sri Lanka International Boxing Duel for the MAS Holdings Challenge Cup was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on Saturday (1st). The duel was between Sri Lanka and India for the year 2012 and the event was organised in a grand scale by MAS Holdings and the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka. 

 

Sri Lanka won the overall Challenge Cup by winning 4 bouts, while India managed to win 3. The highlight of the night was the fight of Anusha Kodituwakku who had proven to be a star for Sri Lankan boxing when she won Gold at the International Women’s Boxing Championship in Tusnia a few months back. This was also to be her last international fight. 

The results are as follows: 

·         Men’s Lightweight (Under 60kg) – Anuruddha Gunathilaka (SRI) 18 – 13 Sunil 

·         Women’s Bantam Weight (Under 54kg) – Priya (IND) 29 – 14 Vidushika Prabadhi 

·         Men’s Light Fly Weight (Under 49kg) – Amith Singh (IND) 12 – 09 Eranga Madushan 

·         Women’s Fly Weight (Under 51kg) – Erandhi De Silva (SRI) 14 – 08 Shvinder Kaur Sidhu 

·         Men’s Bantam Weight (Under 56kg) – Gayan Jayaweera (SRI) 22 – 11 Abahy Singh 

·         Women’s Light Fly Weight (Under 48kg) – Anusha Kodituwakku (SRI) 27 – 11 Pooja Tokas 

·         Men’s Fly Weight (Under 52kg) – A. Silambarsan (IND) 22 – 20 Suresh Pattiarachchi 

Silambarsan of India was adjudged the best boxer in the men’s category while Anusha Kodituwakku was the best boxer in the women’s category. Anusha received a full house standing ovation and a deafening cheer as she did a lap around the ring since this was her last international bout.
