Anuradhi isolated at Colombo Marathon

Women’s marathoner Anuradhi Bogahawatte was the only Sri Lankan to make a podium finish as she ran a seasonal best of 2 hours 57.45 seconds at the 13th LSR Colombo Marathon contested by over 3500 runners which the Kenyan athletes dominated yesterday.

Kenyan runners dominated the proceedings sweeping the best three positions in the men’s marathon and won the best two places in the women’s marathon, making their presence felt in Sri Lanka.  Bogahawatte, the national champion, finished third behind the Kenyan duo of Fridah Jepkite (2 hours 48.11) and Everline Atancha (2 hours 52.13 seconds) who finished first and second.

Meanwhile national marathon champion Ajith Bandara was placed fourth with a time of 2 hours 31:05 seconds in the men’s marathon which the Kenyan trio of Anthony Mugo Ndungo (2:21.1), Elijah Kipkemoi (2:27.19) and David Chepkwong (2:30.01) dominated.

Over 3500 runners including amateur competitors took part in the annual event which began at 6.00 am at Torrington but only around 100 athletes made the full 42.195 kilometer course that ended in Negombo.
