Anula Vidyalaya girls T20 Champions

Anula Vidyalaya came up with a splendid batting performance to defeat Gothami Balika Vidyalaya at the girls under 19 Twenty 20 Division 1 group finals held at the Wesley College grounds this evening.

The inaugural girl’s school cricket tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association was held in grand style introducing girls cricket to Sri Lanka’s school cricket arena.

Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, winning the toss decided to bat first and ended up with 113 runs for a loss of 9 wickets at the  end of their 20 overs. H. Madhawi Dissanayake  as an opening batswoman batted  superbly to score 63 runs. She was ultimately dismissed caught by Kasuri and bowled by Kavindya Dewmini.  Dewmini was chief wrecker for Anula with 3 wickets for 16 runs. 

The Anula lasses possessed a superb bowling department; Kasuri bowled out Sayani Nishanshala for just 5 runs and Pramesha Rasangi was run out for 12. Gandhari Panagoda remained unbeaten on  8 runs when the Gothami innings folded at 113 for 9 in 20 overs.

Anula Vidyalaya responded brilliantly scoring the 115 for the loss of just two wickets in 18.3 overs.  It was a team effort in the batting. Hasini Perera slashing 5 fours scored 23 runs. Amasha Perera and Chamodi Hansika held the batting together after the demise of Hasini who was removed by Chaluni Withanage. Amasha was not out 31 with 3 fours and Hansika 29 4 fours  in a match winning partnership as they easily overcame the Gothami target..

Madhawi Dissanayake and Chaluni Withanage took a wicket a piece for 11 and 20 runs respectively.

The Honarable Minister for Education, Mr Bandula Goonawardane together with other dignitaries graced the momentous occasion of the final and award ceremony.
