Anuk Fernando tears through St. Josephs

St. Josephs College took on St. Sebastians College for the 36th time in an inter school cricket match today in Moratuwa.

The Josephians won the toss and elected to bat first in Moratuwa today and the home team rattled the visitors with a fine fast bowling performance by Sri Lanka youth player Anuk Fernando who claimed 7 wickets for 40 runs. The left arm speedster was in fine form trapping most of the Josephians batsmen who could not find answers to Fernando’s pace and swing.

Right arm slow bowler Nimesh Fernando also put in a good performance cleaning the tail up ending with figures of 3 for 8 runs.

It was a day to forget for the Josephian batsmen, and a day to remember for the big made fast bowler from Moratuwa Anuk Fernando.

Opener Dylan Fernandopulle and skipper Sachin Hewawasam were the top scorer for the Josephians with scores of 24 and 23 each.

St. Sebastians College in their first innings managed to end strong on day one with 133 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets with Anushka Fernando and Gayan Silva scoring impressive scores of 38 and 37 runs respectively.  Left arm leg spinner Moditha Weerasinghe troubled the Sebastian batsman with bowling figures of 3/35.
