The under 19 cricket match against Royal College, Colombo and Isipathana College, Colombo saw a washed out at the end of day today at Reid Avenue.
Chameera Dissanayake the skipper from Isipathana won the toss early morning and elected to bat on a decent looking wicket with a drying out filed as a result of the previous evenings heavy downpour. It took just 17 runs though for the Royalists to bag the first wicket when Chamika Karunaratne sent opener Davis Imesha back to the pavilion for 5 runs.
It was a parade of batsmen going out to the center and returning to the dressing room as wickets fell at regular intervals with only Vishad Randika managing to put up a fight scoring 26 runs which came from 5 boundaries and 6 singes.
The Royal opening spell didn’t seem as threatening as it was at the Dharmaraja game but, it was a similar story when it came to Harith Samarasinghe who bagged 5 for 23 while Randev Pathirana chipped 3 for 18. The Isipathana score was limited to 18 runs in just 34.4 overs which lasted merely the first session.
Isipathana College 1st Innings – 108 All out
It was a disastrous start for the Home side as Naveen Nimesh fell for a beautiful inswinger by Shehan Sandaruwan which wrapped the opener’s pads and sent him back with the score at 01. The Royal batting performance was not too different from the Isipathana one as wickets fell as the partnerships were not to be made. Randev Pathirana top scored once again falling short of his half century by 3 runs trying to be a little cheeky but falling clean bowled to Yomesh Ranasinghe. The hosts inning ended 127 lasting for 41.5 overs with the Isipathana skipper Chameer Dissanayake bagging 4 for 32 runs.
Royal College 1st Innings – 127 all out
The second innings of the Isipathana team wasn’t much of an eye pleaser to a Pathana fan as wickets just kept falling, it was the lone effort of the skipper Dissanayake who scored 41 runs before playing across and falling LBW to pacey Chandula Weliwita.
