From an area where cricket and cricket only, is the most talked about sport, emerges another little cricketing gem. A right-hand batsman has had phenomenal numbers in the school cricketing arena in the U13 category. He is Sayuru Sasanka Peiris, a product of Sri Weerapuranappu College in Moratuwa.
The little master with the bat has an average of 99.64 in just 10 matches being the first in his age category to record or surpass the 1000 run mark this season. He has also stroked, hammered, and run his way through to 7 brilliant centuries on his journey to the 1000 run milestone and is already looking like a star to be reckoned with in the future. This is also a record number of runs by a batsman in his U13 age group with hardly any other batsman surpassing this milestone at such a young age.
The massive 1096 runs came in just the 10 innings with his highest score coming in the match against St. Anthony’s College, Kandana, where he made 184 runs before being dismissed. Perhaps the most amazing thing about Sayuru is his conversion rate, when he scores, he really scores big for his team, proving to be menace to the opposition bowlers. With scores of 184, 160, 160, 157* and 124 he has shown an appetite for the big runs.
The youngster has also shown some ability with the ball, being a very reliable off spinner for his school. His 23 wickets with the ball add even more value alongside the massive amount of runs he has been scoring.
ThePapare.com wishes Sayuru Sasanka Peiris all the very best for his future and hopes that the little superstar goes from strength to strength so that he may one day do the same for Sri Lanka.
