The annual Law – Medical rugby encounter between two of Sri Lanka’s apex professional institutions, namely the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo and Sri Lanka Law College, was called off due to the unfavourable circumstances that have arisen out of the current SAITM dispute.
Sri Lanka Law College and the Medical Faculty of the University of Colombo have been locking horns over the prestigious Hon. C R De Silva Memorial Shield with many eminent legal personalities, medical practitioners and politicians who are products of the two institutions boasting of their respective roles played at the encounter and sharing many fond memories.
The Students’ Union of the Medical Faculty of the University of Colombo issued a letter addressed to the Law Students Union of Sri Lanka Law College stating the reasons for calling off the encounter.
Therefore, as in the previous year the rugby team of Sri Lanka Law College emerged victorious thrashing the Medical Students 32-00 in the encounter, the Hon. C R De Silva Memorial Shield for the annual Law Medical rugby encounter, will remain in Sri Lanka Law College.
