The Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals drew to a close with Anika Seneviratne winning the Best Junior National player of the tournament while Medhira Samarasinghe won the best Women’s Senior Player of the year. Shamal Dissanayake won the Best Men’s Player of 2017.
Anika Seneviratne was the winner of 5 events, taking home the Girl’s Under 18 Singles, Girl’s under16 SIngles and double along with Alana Seneviratne. Additionally she went on to bag the Women’s Doubles with Jithmie Jayawickrama and the Mixed Doubles with Dineshkanthan Thangarajah.
On the penultimate day of the event, Anika won the Girls under 16 singles final beating Anjalika Kurera in straight sets, 6-4 6-4. Soon after Anika paired with Alana Seneviratne bagged the Girl’s Under 16 Doubles final beating Anjalika Kurera & Sathi Silva in straight sets 6-3 6-1 to round off a successful tournament with 5 titles to Anika’s name.
Medhira Samarasinghe won the Women’s Open singles title and managed to come runner up in the Women’s Open doubles and the Mixed Doubles on her way to the Women’s National Championship.
Top seed Shamal Dissanayake lived up to his favourite tag winning the Men’s Open Singles title for the second year running and along with it the Best Men’s Player of 2017.
