At the Inter-School Tennis Tournament final played for the under 13 age group, Ananda College emerged champions in the boys’ category whilst Visakha Vidyalaya won the girls’ title.
Play for this age group commenced on the 9th of May and was worked off at SLTA courts.
The boys’ final went to Ananda when they whitewashed the young Royalists by winning all three matches. Anujaya Abeywickrama won the first singles against Talal Sabry of Royal with the score line 9-4. The second singles was won by Anandian Nelaka Dissanayake when he defeated Ovina Ambanpola 9-0. The Anandian duo Apna Perera and Kavindu Perera beat Ramith Herath and Anuth Wijesinghe of Royal in the doubles, 9-6.
The fight for the 2nd runner-up position was between S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and St. Joseph’s College, Negombo, and was ultimately earned by the Thomians.
St. Joseph’s College, Negombo, however, managed to emerge 2nd runners-up in the girls’ category when they defeated Bishop’s College 3-1.
Visakha Vidyalaya emerged champions amongst the girls’ by defeating Ave Maria Convent in three of the four games. Ave Maria Convent, Negombo, only won the second singles played by star play Anjelika Kurera against Dinethya Dharmarathna, 9-1. Visakhian player Tharani Alexander beat Ashanti Seneviratne 9-4, to win the first singles. Both doubles were also won by the Visakhians.
The Under 15 age group matches will commence on Monday, 16th of May at the same venue.
