S. Thomas’ College after a very promising first day having scored 413 runs for 5 wickets, declared their innings in the morning session giving the home team a chance with the willow.
The Thomians took 90 over’s and batted the entire first day with their skipper Javed Bongso and two down batsman Thilaksha Sumanasiri making centuries.
Ananda College batting in their first innings could only managed to score 185 runs in 61.1 over’s. The first session saw the home team score 78 runs for the loss of 4 wickets with Dasun Wijesinghe and Danuka Madushan making the initial scores of 17 and 15 respectively.
At the end of the match it was Shamvu Ashan who top scored for the home team scoring 40 runs having a bit of help from Pasindu Isira who scored 21. For the visitors left arm chinaman and fresher Ravindu Thilakeratne took 5 wickets for 46 runs and right arm offie Devin Jayasinghe ended with figures of 4/48.
The two spinners battled hard in the middle with Thilakeratne being the stand out performer out of the two. With the Ananda batsmen back in the pavilion during the tea break, the home team was asked to follow on and they did so ending their 2nd innings on 132 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of play.
In the 2nd innings top order batsman Kushil Perera top scored with an unbeaten 51* runs to take his team to safe shores.
Ananda College who lost in their last encounter against Dharmashoka College Ambalangoda hung on to draw the game after a spirited all round performance by the Thomians.
