Sri Lanka’s Fed Cup pair Amritha Muttiah & Medhira Samarasinghe won the SSC Open Women’s Doubles while the Sanka Atukorale-Yasitha De Silva pair emerged victorious to take home the Men’s Doubles title at the SSC Tennis Courts last evening.
The experienced duo Amritha and Medhira defeated Shalini De Silva and Shenalie Weerasekara 6-0, 6-2 to take the title. Starting off in style, Amritha and Medhira raced to 6 points with ease while their opponents didn’t get the opportunity of winning a single game. The second set saw Shalini and Shenalie winning 2 games but that could not overturn the result with the eventual champions claiming the second set 6-2.

Sanka Atukorale and Yasitha De Silva had a tough contest from Heera Ashiq and Nishangan Nadaraja but the Atukorale-De Silva duo managed to win three consecutive sets to seal the game. The winners won 6-2, 6-3, and 6-1 to take home the title despite the strong fightback by the losing pair. The winners had the momentum throughout the game and when the first set was won by Atukorale and Yasitha, the other two sets came in as a value addition.
The SSC Open that spanned for over 40 days will conclude today (17th) with the remaining final encounter being played at 2.30 p.m. at the SSC courts.
