Five matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
Gurukula College vs St. Peter’s College
St. Peter’s College recorded an outright win against Gurukula College in their group C encounter which was concluded today at the Prison grounds, Mahara. St. Peter’s College resumed day two on 93 for 7 and were bowled out for just 100 runs. Gurukula began their second innings 26 runs ahead, but a batting collapse saw them bowled out for 119 runs. St. Peter’s College had to chase down 146 runs to win the match which they did with 5 wickets to spare. Left arm spinner Ameen Miflal was the star of the match as he claimed a match bag of 10 wickets for St. Peter’s College.

The traditional fixture between S. Thomas’ College and Richmond College ended in a draw today at the S. Thomas’ College grounds. Richmond College resumed day two on 98 for 8 and added another 23 runs for the remaining two wickets. The Thomians began their second innings 9 runs ahead, and declared at 187 for 7, setting a target of 197 runs for Richmond College. The lads from down south started well but had to settle for a draw as they only managed to score 101 runs for 3 wickets at stumps.

The traditional fixture between Royal College and Dharmaraja College commenced today at Dharmaraja College grounds. Royal won the toss and elected to bat first and put a formidable total on the board for their first innings with 301 runs which came at a run rate of 4.52 runs per over. Right handed batsman Thevinda Senarathne scored a magnificent century for the visitors while Bhagya Dissanayake (68) and Gayan Dissanayake (52) chipped in with valuable half-tons. In reply, Dharmaraja College were 24 for 1 at stumps on day one.

After winning the toss the host’s captain elected to bat first on home soil but could not post a big total on the board as they were bowled out for 136 runs. Dilshan de Silva and Chamindu Samarasinghe picked up 4 wickets each for Dharmapala College. In reply, Dharmapala College only managed to score 42 runs for their first innings as Shamal Hirushan destroyed their batting line up with 6 wickets for just 10 runs. At stumps on day one, Ananda College was 106 for 1 wicket in their second innings.
