Ambalangoda Dharmasokians grabbed most of the honours when the Open Water Sea Swim for 2014 broke the waves in the sea off Galle Face yesterday.
The Annual Galle Face 5km Open Water Swimming Championships was conducted for the fourth year in succession by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union in association with the Galle Face Hotel.
K. Hashan Madushanka of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda was the first swimmer to reach the finishing line to win the men’s category in a time of 1 hour and 32 seconds while Sunethra Wijeratne representing the Sri Lanka Navy won the women’s title in a time 1 hour 07 minutes and 53 seconds.
The overall men’s championships was won by Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda with 43 points followed closely by Lion Swimming Club, Ambalangoda with 24 points and the Sri Lanka Navy with 12 points. The Dharmasokians also won the women’s championships with 20 points ahead of Sri Lanka Navy (18 points) and Lion Swimming Club, Ambalangoda (16 points).
A total of 70 men and 10 women participated at this event with the majority completing the course within the requisite time.
