The SLC Super Provincial 50 Over Tournament 2019 will commence on 4th April in Dambulla and Pallekelle International Cricket Stadiums and will go on till the 11th April. The media briefing for the crucial tournament before the world cup squad announcement, was held today (1st of April) at the JAIC Hilton, Colombo.

The SLC Super Provincial One Day Tournament 2019 which starts on 4th April…..
The event was conducted with the participation of the four captains of the teams, Angelo Mathews (Captain – Team Dambulla), Dimuth Karunarathne (Captain – Team Kandy), Dinesh Chandimal (Captain – Team Colombo) & Lahiru Thirimanna (Stand-in Captain – Team Galle), players of four teams & Sri Lanka Cricket officials.
“This is the most important tournament in our domestic calendar; The Super Provincial Tournament which is also a precursor to our World Cup activities. This tournament which costs us Rs. 63 million, is going to give our players a fantastic platform to show their talents.” Sri Lanka Cricket Secretory Mohan de Silva outlined on the tournament.
Expressing his views on the Super Provincial Tournament, Sri Lanka Test Captain Dinesh Chandimal said, “This is really a good chance for us and the fresh players to display their abilities. We are ready for the tournament and wish good luck for other 3 captains and their teams.”

“This a good platform for the players to prepare for the World Cup and seal their spots in World Cup since we have only two practice games before that. It is great that we will be given pitches like Dambulla and Pallekelle as they are good tracks to replicate the conditions in England”, Dimuth Karunarathna conveyed his stance on the tournament.
Former Sri Lanka Test captain and the leader of Dambulla team, Angelo Mathews updated on his Injury status revealing that he is fully fit and rearing to go thanks to his rehab team. And as of now he is not concerned on bowling and hoping to play as a pure batsman.

According to Mohan de Silva, Lasith Malinga’s participation in the Super Provincial Tournament is still not confirmed, but they are pretty sure that veteran will arrive Sri Lanka to take part in the tournament.
De Silva also indicated that the long-awaited Lankan Premier League will be happening this August and September.
