Malinga Amarasinghe

Malinga Amarasinghe performed with both bat and ball as the fast bowler took Nalanda to an outright win over Prince of Wales College in the School’s under 19 cricket tournament.

Hosts Nalanda began day two on the front foot dismissing visitors Prince of Wales for just 97 as they added just 7 runs, losing 4 wickets early on day two conceding the hosts a lead of 78 runs.

Nalanda did not have it easy as the hosts were bundled out in their second innings for just 144 runs in 37.3 overs. Malinga Amarasinghe was the standout batsman for the hosts as the paceman managed a valuable half century (57) to their second innings total.

Avindu Fernando managed 5 for 37 with the ball for the visitors even though the hosts set a target of 222 for an outright win.

The fragile Prince of Wales batting looked good from time to time but failed to reach their target as Umeshka Dilshan’s 4 for 29 bundled out the visitors for just 146 handing Nalanda a 76 run win.

Dilanka Gunasekara (44) and Avindu Fernando (40) were the two stand out performers with the bat even though the visitors failed in their run chase.
